The Land Trust of Danbury is a private, nonprofit corporation formed for the sole purpose of protecting open space – woodlands, fields, ponds, vernal pools and other wetlands – for:
- Scenic views
- Beautiful places for walking or running, nature education and inspiration
- Habitats on which wildlife depend
The land trust advises private and municipal landowners of alternative land preservation methods, including possible tax benefits.
Board of Directors Selects Executive Director
The board is pleased to announce the selection of Sharon Danosky for the newly-created position of Part-time Executive Director. Sharon brings a wealth of experience and qualifications to take the land trust to the next level.
She has had a lifetime love of the natural world and has been actively engaged in the environment and land conservation. Since 1996, she has been president and owner of S. J. Danosky Associates, a consulting firm focusing on fund-raising, planning, marketing, board-building and leadership skills to take not-for-profit organizations to the next level of achievement. Also, she served as Vice President-Development and Community Relations for Ability Beyond Disability during 1997-2008, where she overachieved the $7 million goal by raising $8.5 million. As a result of her experiences, Sharon has particularly strong public outreach ties with the greater Danbury community.
We look forward to Sharon guiding the land trust and the board of directors to new levels of achievement, in order to support our sole mission of protecting Danbury’s natural areas and quality of life.
Powerful tax incentives established for conservation easements
The Farm Bill recently enacted by Congress includes some extraordinary federal income tax incentives for landowners who voluntarily donate a conservation easement in 2008 or 2009:
- Raises deduction from 30% of income to 50%
- Increases number of years in which owner can take deductions from 6 to 16
The land trust would be happy to discuss these incentives with landowners!
